JCPOA joint commission to convene on March 16
European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini issued a statement on Monday announcing that the joint commission of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action will take place in Vienna on March 16.
“The Joint Commission will be chaired on behalf of EU High Representative Federica Mogherini by EEAS Secretary General Helga Maria Schmid and will be attended by the E3+3 (China, France, Germany, Russia, United Kingdom, United States) and Iran,” the statement reads, according to the EU website.
“The meeting will offer an opportunity to review the implementation of the JCPOA as far as nuclear and sanctions related issues are concerned,” the statement adds.
The JCPOA joint commission is tasked to meet regularly to monitor the implementation of the nuclear deal.
According to the nuclear deal, Iran is tasked to put limits on its nuclear activities in exchange for termination of economic and financial sanctions.
The deal was signed in July 2015 and went into force in January 2016.
