TEHRAN – Iran’s embassy in the Netherlands has criticized a Dutch politician for throwing a Christmas present from the embassy into a garbage can, saying he has been mistaken about recipients of the presents, Tasnim reported.

In a statement released on Saturday, the embassy denounced as “shallow and unseemly” a TV report showing Henk Krol, leader of the 50PLUS political party, dumping the present he received from the embassy on the pretext that female figures have not received presents.

In its statement, the embassy said it sends Christmas cards and presents, souvenirs of Iran, to Dutch officials and figures every year, regardless of their gender.
