Marmeh ritual in Mazandaran
On the first day of each month, people in northern Mazandaran province perform Marmeh ritual.According to the ritual, each family asks an auspicious person to knock on their door and enter their home. They believe that it brings happiness and luck for them through the month.
In ancient times, many people used to put a wooden stick at an oblique angle on their door so that their guest understood that they were waiting for a special person who they believed was auspicious to knock on their door on the first day of month.
During Iranian New Year Celebration, Noruz, each family selects a felicific relative to be their first guest. The Person knocks on the door after the beginning of the New Year.
He or she brings a tray containing the Holy Quran, a bowl of water and Sabzeh (wheat sprout which symbolizes revival and rebirth, which is grown during Noruz).
He or she knocks on the door, enters each room saying Happy Noruz, wishing for a year of prosperity and happiness.
Various tribes and ethnic groups who live in different parts of Iran are just like colors, which make a great painting. Iran is home to about 20 ethnic groups who live in different regions of the country.
