TEHRAN – A bust of the celebrated sculptor Abolhassan Khan Seddiqi (1894-1995), who is mostly known for his works on Iranian luminaries such as Ferdowsi and Khayyam, was unveiled at the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art (TMCA) on Monday.

The bust was created by Mohsen Nasserian based on a commission from the Tehran Municipality’s Beautification Organization in order to celebrate the Seddiqi’s 120th birthday, the museum announced in a press release on Tuesday.

The deputy director of the organization, Mojtaba Musavi, said that the bust will be temporarily put on display at Tehran’s Barg Gallery until the organization decides on a permanent location.

Seddiqi has made over 80 sculptures including two stone statues of Ferdowsi: one is set up at Tehran’s Ferdowsi Square and the other embellishes the mausoleum of the Persian poet in Tus.

Also included are sculptures of poet Sadi in Shiraz, scientist Avicenna in Hamedan and poet Khayyam in Tehran’s Laleh Park.
