TEHRAN – A patchwork of historical places scattered across the southern province of Kerman has been or being restored to their heyday glory by the assistance of non-governmental organizations, CHTN reported on Monday.

A total sum of over 400 billion rials (nearly $11m) has been channeled into refurbishing projects at Aminian Mansion, Haj Aqa Ali Caravansary, Vakil Caravansary, Haj Ali Rafsanjan Mansion, and Shah Nematollah Vali Shrine amongst others, the provincial tourism chief said.

Mahmoud Vafai added that [general] attitude towards the historical places has been shifted toward opportunities for developing tourism since President Hassan Rouhani assumed office in 2013. 

The Revitalization and Utilization Fund for Historical Places plans to cede tens of historical structures to the private sector every year to become operational as traditional tourism lodgings.

The vast province is home to numerous natural and historical attractions and one of the oldest inhabited regions in the Middle East. The ancient land is a paradise for archeologists and fellow anthropologists as well.
