18 Iranian universities in CWTS Leiden Ranking 2017

TEHRAN — According to the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) Leiden Ranking Eighteen Iranian universities are among world top 900 major universities in 2017.

The CWTS Leiden Ranking 2017 offers key insights into the scientific performance of over 900 major universities worldwide. A sophisticated set of bibliometric indicators provides statistics on the scientific impact of universities and on universities’ involvement in scientific collaboration.

University of Tehran, Amirkabir University of Technology, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Sharif University of Technology, Tarbiat Modares University, Isfahan University of Technology, Iran University of Science and Technology, Shiraz University of Technology, Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, University of Tabriz, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Islamic Azad University Science and Research Branch, Shahid Beheshti University, K.N. Toosi University of Technology, University of Isfahan, Isfahan University of Medical Sciences, University of Gilan, and Shiraz University of Medical Sciences are ranked among world-class universities.

To emphasize the importance of taking a multidimensional perspective on university performance, in the Leiden Ranking universities are by default ordered based on the size of their publication output.

University of Tehran with 4,933 publications, Amirkabir University of Technology with 3,643 publications, and Tehran University of Medical Sciences with 3,432 publications are top three Iranian universities in the list which came in 195th, 292nd, and 322nd place worldwide by the indicator of impact in all sciences from 2012 to 2015. 

Harvard University with 31,678 publications, University of Toronto with 21,737 publications and Zhejiang University with 19,061 publications are at the top of the list.
