Import of cars, related spare parts hits $2.3b in 11 months

TEHRAN- The value of vehicles and related spare parts imported to Iran during the first eleven months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2016-February 18, 2017) stood at over $2.3 billion, Tasnim news agency reported on Sunday.

China, Germany and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) stand at the top of exporters to the country during the mentioned time span.

Iranian car makers manufactured 1.224 million vehicles during the eleven-month period, with 31.9 percent rise compared to the figure of the same period of time in the previous year.

Also, the number of passenger cars manufactured in the country during the mentioned time span stood at 1.138 million, showing 41.8 percent growth from the figure of the preceding year.

Iran is scheduled to manufacture 1.35 million cars by the end of the current calendar year (March 20, 2017), Deputy Minister of Industry, Mining and Trade Mohsen Salehinia had announced in last April.

As Salehinia underlined, the government seeks to improve the quality as well as the quantity of the domestically produced cars on the way to boost their exports.
