TEHRAN – Iran’s foreign minister has congratulated his former German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier on his new post as president of the Western European country.

Hailing Steinmeier as a leading politician favoring peace and dialogue, Mohammad Javad Zarif in his letter on Sunday hoped that Tehran-Berlin strong ties would continue to thrive in future, IRNA reported.

Zarif pointed to the history of close cooperation and consultations with the German politician as foreign minister, and expressed the hope that his presidency would also constructively serve the German nation.
