TEHRAN- The annual production of rice in Iran is anticipated to reach 2.2 million tons in the current Iranian calendar year (which will end on March 20, 2017), according to Kaveh Khaksar, the director general of Cereals Department in the Ministry of Agriculture.

He put the rice output of country at 1.75 million tons in the previous calendar year, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) reported on Wednesday.
The official also said that Iran’s annual need of rice is three million tons given the per capita consumption of 37 kilograms.
