TEHRAN - Saeed Ohadi, the head of Iran’s Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization, has said that Iran has accepted no mediation on the Mina incident as well as on ties with Saudi Arabia.
“Saudi Arabia has taken no step to uphold the rights of the martyrs of Mina catastrophe,” he told Mehr news agency.
Iran will pursue the issue until a final result is reached, he added, saying Riyadh is not determined to help reach a result on the issue.
In January, Iraq and Russia offered to play mediator part to ease Iran-Saudi Arabia tension over the Mina incident.
In the stampede in Mina on September 24 last year, hundreds of pilgrims were killed. Among the dead were 464 Iranians.
The Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization of Iran (HPOI) announced on May 29 that it would not dispatch pilgrims this year to Mecca because of inconsistency at decision-making level by the Saudis. The decision came after Iranian and Saudis officials failed to iron out differences over the security of Iranian pilgrims despite several rounds of talks.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on September 6 that the Saudi rulers refuse to accept responsibility for the Mina tragedy.
