TEHRAN – A bust of Persian poet Omar Khayyam (1048-1131) has been installed in the College of Languages of the University of Baghdad in collaboration with the Tehran-based Sadi Foundation.
The bust is scheduled to be unveiled during a ceremony to be attended by Iranian and Iraqi cultural officials, literati and students from the university at the beginning of the new academic year that will start in September.
The Persian mathematician, astronomer and poet Omar Khayyam is chiefly known to English-speaking readers through the translation of a collection of his quatrains in the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam (1859) by the English writer Edward FitzGerald.
