TEHRAN – Jamshid Hashempur, the Iranian actor who is mostly famous for his roles in action movies, will be honored for his lifetime achievements at the 16th Hafez Awards.

The award ceremony will take place at Tehran’s Milad Tower on July 18, the organizers announced on Saturday.

The celebration is organized annually by the Persian cinematic monthly Donya-ye Tasvir (Picture World) held under the title Donya-ye Tasvir Cinematic and TV Films Celebration for several years.

Hashempur, 72, made his debut with “White Hell” by Samuel Khachikian in 1968. 

After the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, he withdrew from cinema, pursuing a career at a rescue center.

He resumed his acting career in 1981 by playing a part in “Redline” by Masud Kimiai. 

He turned into a superstar in the early 1980’s with films such as “The Eagles” by Samuel Khachikian and “Kanimanga” by Seifollah Daad.
 
He earned his fame mostly by starring as trafficker Zeinal Bandari in “Plunder” by Iraj Qaderi in 1985. Afterwards, his shiny bald head in the movie became Hashempur’s trademark. 

By mid 1980s, he was known as Jamshid Aria, but no one knows exactly why he chose Hashempur as his surname. However, his old fans still call him Jamshid Aria.

“Mother”, “Hiva”, “Fifth Reaction”, “Paternal Garden”, “The Last Port” and “Poisonous Mushroom” are among his other noteworthy credits.

Hashempur had previously received Hafez Award for his role in “The Passenger of Rey” by Davud Mirbaqeri (2000).
