TEHRAN - Foreign companies seek to participate in liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects in Iran, IRNA quoted Managing Director of National Iranian Gas Exports Company (NIGEC) Alireza Kameli as saying on Sunday.

According to IRNA, based on a report by Oil ministry, Kameli announced that talks are underway between NIGEC and eight foreign and domestic companies specialized in LNG projects regarding the ways of participation in construction of new LNG plants in the country.
The managing director noted that applicant companies have presented their proposals and NIGEC is considering the offers and the decisions will be finalized as soon as the oil ministry notifies the company with its policy in this regard.
Iran possesses one of the largest reserves of the natural gas in the world, estimated at 34,020 billion cubic meters, according to the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries.
On January 16, the International Atomic Energy Agency verified Tehran’s compliance with the nuclear deal Iran reached in July with six world powers, opening the way for the country's return to the global energy market.
