Govt. pledges to provide 1,000 wagons for Tehran’s subway
TEHRAN — The government has made a pledge to provide 1,000 wagons for Tehran’s subway, the managing director of Tehran Urban and Suburban Railway Operation Company, Habil Darvishi, said.
Darvishi made the remarks on the sidelines of the inauguration of a new station in the line 3 of Tehran’s subway on Monday, ISNA news agency reported.
Darvishi explained that in 2005 Tehran’s subway stretched over 79 kilometers with 37 stations and 320 wagons while currently the five operational lines of the subway stretch over 170 kilometers with 102 stations and 1159 wagons.
He further stated that line 3 would be fully functional once the four remaining stations come on stream by the Iranian calendar month of Shahrivar, which falls on August 22 to September 21.
Commenting on the passenger transfer capacity of Tehran’s subway, Darvishi noted that the capacity has increased to 3.5 million passengers per day from 600,000 in 2005.
Tehran subway system consists of five operational lines and lines 6 and 7 are under construction. The lines link south to north, east to west and are gradually covering more neighborhoods.
