Persian literature scholar Behruz Servatian dies at 75

TEHRAN – Iranian literary scholar and author Behruz Servatian died of a heart attack at his home in Karaj on Saturday. He was 75.
Servatian carried out comprehensive research on classical Persian literature including poems by Nezami Ganjavi and the Divan of Hafez. He was also the author of several articles on contemporary Persian poetry.
He was working on a plan to correct “Spiritual Interpretations of the Holy Quran by Safi Ali Shah” over the past week, his daughter Golnar said in a press release on Sunday.
His funeral procession will begin in front of his home and he will be buried in the Behesht Sakineh Cemetery near Karaj tomorrow.
A memorial ceremony will be held at the Nur Mosque in Tehran on July 31.
Born in 1937 in the town of Miandoab, West Azarbaijan Province, Servatian got his Ph.D. in Persian language and literature from the University of Tehran in 1975.
