Iran's Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi met with his Turkmen counterpart Rashid Meredov in Tehran on Monday on the sidelines of the two countries’ 12th joint economic committee meeting.

 

Salehi lauded the good relations between the Islamic Republic and Turkmenistan, saying the two countries plan to raise their bilateral trade volume to $10 billion, according to Press TV. 

 

Meredov said the relations between Iran and Turkmenistan in all fields are progressing, adding that, “The two countries have similar stances with regards to important international issues including strengthening peace, stability and sustainable development in the world.” 

 

Iran was Turkmenistan’s top trading partner in 2010, accounting for 21.7 percent of its total trade value, Turkmenistan State Statistical Committee reported on November 13, 2011.

 

According to the head of the Turkmen Chamber of Commerce and Industry Palvan Taganov, 146 Iranian companies are currently carrying out industrial and construction projects in Turkmenistan.
