Hezbollah weapons are sacred in confrontation with Israel: Lebanese PM

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati says that Hezbollah’s weapons are sacred in the confrontation with Israel.

In an interview with Lebanese television network al-Mayadeen, Mikati asserted that Hezbollah’s arms were the product of the Israeli occupation of Lebanon. He stated that the arms have proven their usefulness and advantage, especially for the Lebanese territories that were only liberated through Hezbollah’s efforts.

“Hezbollah’s weapons are sacred for me when it comes to confronting the Israeli enemy, while it is a matter of concern for some Lebanese,” moqawama.org quoted Mikati as saying.

“We assure the Lebanese people that it [Hezbollah’s arsenal] won’t be [used] against them,” the Lebanese prime minister said.

Commenting on the ongoing National Dialogue, he said, “The most important issue in the dialogue is the policy of self-distancing Lebanon and placing it in a neutral position, away from the regional political fronts, in order to protect its interests.”

Mikati also mentioned the statement issued after the first dialogue session, during which the convened parties stressed the need to adhere to the Taif Accord and control the situation on the Lebanon-Syria border.

On the calls to disarm Palestinians living in Lebanon, Mikati stated that despite the efforts of two successive Lebanese cabinets, the Palestinians still have not been disarmed, but he noted that the Palestinian leadership is cooperating on the issue.

Mikati also said the human rights of Palestinians living in Lebanon must be respected and the Palestinians living in refugee camps in Lebanon should be allowed to live in dignity.
