Veteran director Hamid Samandarian honored at theater celebration

TEHRAN -- The Iranian stage director Hamid Samandarian was honored for his lifetime achievements during the Iran Ordibehesht Theater Celebration on Saturday evening.
 
He received an award of the evening, which is an annual celebration of Iranian theater, from veteran actor Jamshid Mashayekhi at the main hall of Tehran’s City Theater Complex.
 
The celebrated stage director and theater scholar Qotbeddin Sadeqi addressed the audience about Samandarian’s influence on Iranian theater over the past few decades.
 
Samandarian brought academic and practical knowledge to Iranian theater during his 50-year career, Sadeqi said.
 
“We do need such people to become role models for our young generation and we bow before him,” he said.
 
The festival organizers honored Sadeqi and Farnaz Behzadi as theater teachers during the event. Playwrights Mohammad Charmshir and Jamshid Khanian were also among the honorees of the celebration.
 
Director Mahmud Ostad-Mohammad, actor Sadi Afshar also received awards during the event.
