TEHRAN – China believes that dialogue is the only right way to resolve Iran’s nuclear issue, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu said on Monday.
Ma will lead the Chinese delegation to the Baghdad talks between Iran and the 5+1 group (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany), which will be held on Wednesday.
Iran and the 5+1 group held a new round of talks in Istanbul on April 14, breaking a 15-month hiatus in talks, and agreed to meet again in Baghdad.
The talks will further consolidate mutual trust, cooperative momentum, and regional stability, Ma told reporters, according to the China Daily.
“The Istanbul meeting started the dialogue process, while China hopes the Baghdad meeting would kick off substantial negotiations,” said Ma, urging all concerned parties to properly address differences based on mutual respect.
“The international community places high hope in the Baghdad talks, while the complicated Iranian nuclear issue can hardly be resolved overnight but needs all sides’ confidence and efforts,” he said.
China will continue adhering to the fair stance on the issue and playing a constructive role to promote dialogue and stability in the region, Ma added.
