TEHRAN – Restaurants to be used exclusively for women are to be opened in Tehran, says Parvin Hedayati, an official at the Center for Women and Family Affairs.

The purpose behind establishing such restaurants is to provide a comfortable environment for women’s gatherings and parties, she told ISNA news agency in an interview published on Sunday.

In these restaurants, which will be staffed and run by females, smoking hookah will be banned, Hedayati added.

Currently there are women-only parks in Tehran in which women do exercises and recreation activities without any head coverings.

In Iran the Islamic dress rules do not apply for women in places where it is forbidden for men.
