Intelligence Ministry discloses attempt on Ahmadinejad’s life in 2007

TEHRAN – Iranian intelligence and police forces foiled a plot by the Jundullah terrorist group to assassinate President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in 2007, the Intelligence Ministry announced in a statement released on Saturday.
According to the statement, during Ahmadinejad’s visit to the city of Iranshahr in the southeastern province of Sistan Baluchestan in 2007, three suicide attackers affiliated with the Jundullah terrorist group tried to carry out an operation to assassinate the president, but the terrorists were identified and the plot was foiled.
The terrorists had planned to draw near the president during his speech to the people in Iranshahr and carry out their suicide operation.
But the plot was uncovered and intelligence and police forces intervened to prevent the terrorist attack.
Four police forces, one intelligence operative, and four terrorists were killed during the counterterrorist operation.
