TEHRAN – An exhibition of historical maps of Iran dating back to the Qajar era (1794-1925) opened Sunday at Golestan Palace, a Qajar era monument located in downtown Tehran.
Five complete maps of Iran containing detailed information about Persian Gulf and its islands went on show Saturday on the occasion of Iran’s National Persian Gulf Day (April 29).
“The collection is selected from among the documents kept in the archive of the Golestan Palace,” director of the palace Masud Sharifi told the Persian service of ISNA on Monday.
“The maps belong to the time of Naser ad-Din Shah and Mozafar ad-Din Shah. Three of the maps were drawn by Iranians and two by foreign geographers,” Sharifi added.
He said that the lines in the maps clearly indicate the borders, the Persian Gulf and its many islands of Kish, Qeshm, Khark, Lar, Abu Musa and Greater and Lesser Tunbs; all in the possession of Iran.
Sharifi also said that the week-long exhibit was due to be held in the southern port city of Bushehr but the location changed due to several numbers of the programs arranged for Iran’s National Persian Gulf Day.
