TEHRAN – The mausoleums of Shams-i Tabrizi in Khoy and Attar in Neyshabur will enhance the cultural connection on National Attar Day on April 13.

The cultural connection between Shams who has been immortalized in Rumi’s collection of poetry and the Persian classical poet Farid ud-Din Attar (c. 1145-1221) will help better introduce our luminaries and cultural heritage, Managing Director of the Shams and Rumi Foundation Hojjatollah Ayyubi told the Persian service of ISNA on Saturday.

“The cultural connection between the tombs of Shams in Khoy, Rumi in Konya and Hafez in Shiraz has been carried out in the previous years,” Ayyubi added.

He added that these cultural connections indicate the hidden aspects of the spiritual relations between the poets, the writers and the Sufis.

Ayyubi referred to the meeting Rumi and his father had with Attar in Neyshabur on their way traveling from Iran to Mecca where Attar had referred to the great future of Rumi.

An annual ritual, Iranian literati and scholars gather in Neyshabur to mark Attar National Day which falls on April 13 this year.

Asrar-Nama, Mantiq at-Tayr (Conference of the Birds), Mosibat-Nama, Elahi-Nama, Mokhtar-Nama, Khosrow-Nama and Tadkerat al-Awliya are among Attar’s masterpieces.

Born in the city of Tabriz, Shams lived together with Rumi in Konya for several years. Shams was immortalized in Rumi’s collection of poetry named the “Divan of Shams-i Tabrizi”.
