TEHRAN - Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has congratulated the Syrian nation and government on the “successful” referendum that they held on a new constitution on Sunday.
“Despite the extensive efforts made by the enemies of unity and cohesion of Syria ahead of the referendum, the turnout sent a clear message to those who are lying in wait to” create discord among the Syrian people and hinder efforts meant to work out a peaceful solution to the Syrian issue, Amir-Abdollahian stated in Tehran on Monday.
He also expressed hope that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad would take more steps toward implementing reforms in the country and opposing foreign intervention.
