The recent reconciliation deal between Fatah and Hamas should be regarded as a positive step because experience shows that rifts between Palestinian groups have always given the Zionist regime an opportunity to take advantage of the situation.
The United States and Israel are feigning to be in favor of a diplomatic solution to the Palestinian conflict. However, the recent round of negotiations between the Palestinian Authority and the Israelis in Jordan gave the lie to these claims, and PA officials have come to the conclusion that they will never be able to find a solution that will lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state by relying on Israel.
The only option remaining for acting PA chief Mahmoud Abbas is to boost the resistance against Israel, which is the policy that Hamas has been following for decades. Along these lines, the reconciliation deal between Fatah and Hamas can create a united front against Israel.
Fatah and Hamas signed the reconciliation accord in an attempt to revive their old connections, which had been neglected for many years. Institutions such as the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Palestinian national parliament can also be revived through the reconciliation process. This would encourage Palestinians to stand up for their rights, which have always been neglected due to the rifts and rivalries between various Palestinian groups.
Some political analysts are very pessimistic about the deal, mainly because it was mediated by the pro-Western emir of Qatar, who has aligned with the U.S. in recent developments in the region. Doha is currently doing its utmost to topple the popular government in Syria, which is regarded as one of the main supporters of the Palestinian resistance movement.
However, the deal should be welcomed by all factions and groups inside and outside of Palestine because it will promote the cause of the Palestinians in the future.
