TEHRAN -- Latidan bridge, which dates back to several hundred years ago, is considered as one of the most remarkable and important historical monuments constructed in Hormozgan Province during Safavid dynasty. The bridge was first constructed in 1627 for military purposes but was later used as a commercial route. It is located 50 km west of Bandar Abbas, near the village of Nimehkar. Experts say that the bridge, with a length of 1,500 meters, was once one of the longest bridges in Iran. According to the cultural heritage experts of Hormozgan Province, unlike many brick bridges built during Safavid dynasty, Latidan bridge was built of stone.
Hormozgan Cultural Heritage Office is currently repairing the ancient bridge, which was recently registered as a national monument.
