TEHRAN Representatives of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis) Wednesday voted for exclusion of the motion on the amendment of the Majlis Election Law from this week's agenda. The session, presided over by Speaker Ali Akbar Nateq Nouri, made the decision by casting votes following doubts over the result of Tuesday's voting on the issue which was done through standing. Out of 206 representatives attending the session, 105 voted for and 95 against the exclusion while 6 abstained.

Speaker Nateq Nouri said that the vote, however, does not imply that the motion is totally excluded from the Majlis agenda. The session also approved the motion on entitling Pars Special Economic-Trade Zone to the facilities stipulated in the law on free trade-industrial zones. Post, Telegraph and Telephone Minister Mohammad Reza Aref who was also present at the session said he agreed with disapproval of the motion which says any rise in telephone charges should be upon the approval of the Majlis. The parliamentarians also approved the bill on agreement between Iran and the Russian Federation for cooperation in civil and criminal cases.

With the approval of the bill, the Islamic Republic of Iran received the permission to exchange relevant documents. The next open session of the Majlis will be held on Sunday. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, generalities of the proposed plan to amend the press code were approved in a joint commission comprising members of Judicial Affairs and Islamic Art and Guidance Commissions of the Majlis. Isfahan representative Hassan Kamran in this issue said that those deputies who tabled the motion in the Majlis called on the Majlis to bring the plan into its agenda priorities.

He said that the second meeting to debate the generalities of the plan was held tuesday in the presence of the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Attaollah Mohajerani, director general of Tehran's Justice Department, Judicial officials, a university professor and several proponent and opponent MPs. Kamran, who is the second vice speaker of the Islamic Art and guidance Commission of the Majlis, added the generalities of the plan were approved after hours of debates.
