Bangladesh PM Leaves for The Hague to Attend Peace Conference

DHAKA Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed left Friday for the Netherlands to attend a peace conference at The Hague, the official BSS news agency reported. She will speak at the citizens peace conference and is expected to be joined by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and other international dignitaries at a ceremony Saturday. More than 6,000 representatives of international humanitarian or pacifist organizations are taking part in the conference which began Wednesday. Sheikh Hasina was last month awarded the UNESCO 1998 peace prize for signing a peace deal in December 1997 to end a bloody tribal insurgency in the southeastern Bangladesh hills.
