Iran says U.S. plot allegation has no legal weight

TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Ministry on Saturday issued a statement on the U.S. allegation that the Iranian government had plotted to assassinate Saudi ambassador to Washington, saying the claim is not legally credible.
U.S. authorities claimed on October 11, that they had broken up a plot by individuals linked to Iran’s security agencies to kill the Saudi envoy, Adel al-Jubeir, and arrested an Iranian-born Texas man, named Manssor Jack Arbabsiar, in connection with the plot.
The statement said that the arrested individual has been living in the U.S since 16 years ago and has never had any connection with the Iranian government, so leveling accusations against an Iranian individual without presenting any evidence and mounting a propaganda campaign against the Islamic Republic of Iran are not legally logical and can only be seen as a political farce.
The statement also said that U.S. officials have based their allegation on the report of an unidentified operative and have not given any compelling evidence to support their claim.
In addition, the statement described the U.S. claim against Iran as an attempt by the U.S. government to divert attention from the failure of its policy on the Islamic awakening.
