STL indictments of Hezbollah members not credible: MP

TEHRAN – Top Iranian legislator Alaeddin Boroujerdi has said that the indictments issued against four Hezbollah members over the assassination of former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri lack legal weight.
The Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee chairman made the remarks in response to the accusations leveled against the Hezbollah members by the United Nations Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL).
“The indictments envisaging the arrest of the Hezbollah members are not legally credible and could not be enforced,” Boroujerdi told the Mehr News Agency on Sunday.
“Since the establishment of the tribunal, it was clear that it was not a judicial process. It was a politicized court dominated by the United States and the Zionist regime,” he said.
He went on to say that the indictments have been issued with the aim of destabilizing Lebanon.
“After the formation of the new Lebanese government, Lebanon was heading toward peace and stability, so they took this measure to throw the country into political disarray,” he noted.
On Saturday, Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani also said that since the U.S. officials had been badly defeated by the Lebanese political leaders, they tried to fabricate a story and pressured the notorious court to issue indictments against Hezbollah members, but nobody paid any attention to the process because it was clear that the accusations were totally false and malicious.
