TEHRAN – The organizers of the 34th Fajr International Film Festival, Iran’s major global event in the motion picture industry, announced the official selection and the lineup for the Asian and Islamic countries on Tuesday.

The lineup for the official section, which is also known as Cinema Salvation, is composed of twelve movies by filmmakers from around the world.

“1944” directed by Elmo Nuganen from Estonia, “Amama – When a Tree Falls” by Asier Altuna from Spain, “El Clásico” by Halkawt Mustafa from Iraq, “Dawn” by Laila Pakalnina from Latvia, “Walking Distance” by Alejandro Guzman Alvarez from Mexico and “Rams” by Grímur Hákonarson from Iceland are in the lineup.

Also among the movies are “Frenzy” by Emin Alper from Turkey, “The Treasure” by Corneliu Porumboiu from Romania, “Song of Songs” by Eva Neymann from Ukraine, “Norfolk” by Martin Radich from the UK and “Guaraní”, by Luis Zorraquín from Argentine.

Three Iranian films will be added to the lineup later.

Another twelve films will also be competing in the Asian and Islamic countries section -- Eastern Vista.

The lineup includes “Solomon” directed by Zaza Khalvashi from Georgia, “My Sister, the Pig Lady” by Jang Moon-il from South Korea, “What a Wonderful Family!” by Yoji Yamada from Japan, “Zinnia Flower” by Tom Lin from Taiwan, “Bloody January” by Vahid Mustafayev from Azerbaijan and “Walnut Tree” by Yerlan Nurmukhambetov from Kazakhstan.

The section also will screen “Stranger” by Ermek Tursunov from Kazakhstan, “3000 Nights” by Mai Masri from Palestine, “Habib Al-Ard” by Ramadan Khasrouh from Kuwait, “Madame Courage” by Merzak Allouache from Algeria and “The New Classmate” By Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari form India.

The section will also show three Iranian films, which will be announced later.

The 34th Fajr Film Festival plans to highlight French cinema with a program screening six movies by the country’s prominent filmmakers.

The biographical drama “Anton Tchekhov 1890” by Rene Feret, the crime thriller film “Rabid Dogs” by Éric Hannezo and the computer animated fantasy film “The Little Prince” by Mark Osborne will be screened in the program.

The program will also screen “The Fear” by Damien Odoul, “The Measure of a Man” by Stéphane Brizé and “The Clearstream Affair” by Vincent Garenq.

The organizers also plan to screen films in some none-competitive sections. 

“The Assassin”, a martial arts drama by Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-Hsien, “Lamb” by American director Ross Partridge and “Mia Madre” by Italian filmmaker and screenwriter Nanni Moretti are among the films.

Over 150 international directors, actors, film critics and journalist from around the globe have been invited to attend the festival, which will be held at Tehran’s Charsu Cinema Complex from April 20 to 25.
