Commotion over Iran’s missile program lacks legal basis: Larijani
TEHRAN - Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Saturday that the uproar created over Iran’s missile program by certain Western countries have no legal basis, calling the commotion just a “propaganda”.
“None of the ballistic missile built by Iran is designed for carrying nuclear warhead, so the Westerners’ new adventures have no legal basis and are just propaganda,” he said during a meeting with the parliamentary staff.
Larijani said there are “ill-wishes” behind the moves by the West that Iran’s missile tests should be studied by the UN Security Council.
In recent commentary on his tweeter Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said, “Neither #JCPOA nor SC Res prohibit Iran from missiles not designed for nuke warheads. Read the Document: It's plain English not legalese.”
Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehqan also said recently that “our actions are neither a breach of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (the July nuclear deal) nor are they against Resolution 2231.”
He also highlighted the importance of promoting domestic production in order not to be hurt by foreign pressure.
Larijani said that a “deep and comprehensive move” is required to have a “productive economy”.
He also attached importance to national unity to counter actions taken by the West to create “hurdles” in the country.
The unity at home brought the nuclear talks to a result, he added.
