TEHRAN- After years of absence in the nature, two Persian lynxes were spotted in Marmishoo, a rocky reserve in Urmia city, the head of the local Department of Environment said on Thursday.

When patrolling the heights of Marmishoo in Silvana wilderness, the rangers happened to notice two Persian lynxes, a rare feline species whose natural habitat is high and safe areas, IRNA quoted Mokhtar Khani as saying.

Khani further said that patrolling has been heightened in the area on the back of the report.

According to Khani, another lynx had already been spotted in Salmas city in West Azerbaijan, where it was severely injured by the locals not familiar with the species.

Unfortunately, the animal could not survive the injuries and died during treatment, he added.

Persian lynxes used to live mostly in Mazandaran, Gilan, Shiraz, Gorgan, Bushehr, and in West Azerbaijan, Khani made the remark.
