Iraqi success in war on terror is indebted to political integrity: Iran

TEHRAN - Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani has said that Iraq’s successes in fighting terrorism are result of strengthened “political integrity” in the country.

“A united and integrated Iraq will find its actual political, economic and security status at the international level soon,” he said during a meeting with Iraqi National Security Adviser Faleh al-Fayyad in Tehran on Sunday.

Shamkhani described terrorism as the main threat against international peace.

He also said that implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action will pave the way to take new steps in international cooperation.

For his part, Fayyad highlighted the importance of Iran’s role in helping establish peace and security in the Mideast region.

He also called for closer ties with Iran.

---‘Iran continues helping Iraq’

Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehqan also told Fayyad in a separate meeting that Iran will continue helping Iraq till the country defeat terrorism.

Dehqan also called unity among Iraqi ethnic groups in war against terrorism a “great achievement”.

Pointing to the removal of sanctions on Iran, Dehqan also said a new chapter will be opened in Iran’s relations with other counties.

Fayyad praised Iran’s support for the Iraqi government and people.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and EU Foreign Policy chief Federica Mogherini issued a joint statement on Saturday announcing the implementation of the JCPOA.

U.S. President Barack Obama signed on Saturday an executive order to lift sanctions on Iran related to its nuclear program.
