TEHRAN- Denmark can help Iran develop its renewable energy sector, Danish Foreign Minister Kristian Jensen told the reporters after his meeting with Iranian Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian in Tehran on January 4.
“I think this was a very good, fruitful and promising meeting with the [Iranian] minister. Many of the issues that Iran is facing with renewable energy as well as many issues concerning water supply and water resources, I know that the Danish companies can provide solutions for that and we have today seen that huge interest from the Danish side and Iranian side to work together”, the Danish minister stated.Jensen on the head of a Danish trade delegation arrived in Tehran on Monday to explore the ways for the expansion of Iran-Denmark relations.
In the first day of the trip, the Danish delegation made an agreement with Iranian Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs to finance implementation of some Iranian projects.
“Signing of an agreement to provide financing for the [Iranian] projects is a great step forewords and I think that Denmark and Iran will have a great future together in energy and water supply”, Jensen noted.
“I think that Iran has a great potential naturally in the traditional oil and gas industry where you have the capacity that we can expand and Danish companies can help you expand”, the minister told the Tehran Times.
“But also in renewable energy the Danish companies are evaluating Iran to be a very good country for wind turbines and it will be possible for you to have a huge part of the renewable energy in the future and Denmark can help you fulfill that target,” he added.
*** ‘Danish firms ready to establish wind turbine manufacturing plants in Iran’
Chitchian, for his part, said: “Some of the Danish companies present in today’s meeting have already announced their readiness to set up plants for manufacturing wind turbines in Iran with their own investment to distribute their product in Iran and also other companies via Iran.”
Given the good experience of Danish firms in the field of renewable energies, especially wind and biomass, it is hoped that fruitful cooperation will occur between them and Iranian sides, the minister noted.
He said after Iran’s nuclear deal with the world’s major powers, trade delegations from around the world have visited the country to seek business opportunities in the post-sanctions time.
Many foreign companies have declared interest and willingness to cooperate with Iran in different economic sectors once the sanctions are lifted against the country, the official added.
“Today’s visit of the Danish foreign minister to Iran is also a part of those visits”, Chitchian stated.
He said: “A noticeable number of directors from some renowned Danish companies active in the fields of water and energy are accompanying Jensen in his trip. They suggested their plans to cooperate with Iran.”
*** ‘Iran welcomes co-op with Danish companies that transfer technology’
In his meeting with Jensen, Chitchian said Iranian water and electricity market welcomes cooperation with those Danish companies that transfer technology to Iran.
He expressed hope that the Danish delegation’s trip to Iran will play effective role in the expansion of Iran-Denmark relation.
Jensen, for his part, referred to the fruitful trade agreements made between Iran and Denmark in the trip of the Danish delegation to the Islamic Republic and said the agreement that they made with Iranian Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs could pave the way for bolstering trade ties between Iran and Denmark.
*** ‘There is huge potential in Iranian market’
Leif Flojgaard, the president for Turkey, Middle East and Africa in the Danish industrial company Danfoss, told the Tehran Times: “We are seeing huge potential in the Iranian market and one of the main reasons for this is that the energy prices here are very low.”
“There is interest for optimizing the heating systems and cooling systems and industrial systems in Iran. So there are a lot of opportunities in the future to do it better for Iran with the purpose to save energy and by that of course it has positive impact on the environment”, the Danish director asserted.
“The top point for making investment in Iran’s energy sector is that there is a big potential in the existing construction and it means that if we can optimize these systems then Iran is going to reduce the energy consumption and that is the case for our more export”, he noted.
“I don’t think that there is any downside for making investment or transferring technology in Iran’s energy sector. We are not coming just with the purpose to sell our products. We are coming with the purpose to guide what is the right direction to take”, he highlighted.
Danfoss is a global group within research, development and production, sales and service of mechanical and electronic components for several industries.
***’Good prospect for Iran’s energy sector in post-sanctions era’
Hans Peter Kyk, the general sales manager of Danish Kamstrup Company, which is a world leading supplier of intelligent energy and water metering solutions, said: “I think the prospect is good for Iran’s energy sector in the post-sanctions time.”
“Iran is a big country. You have 80 million people and you need new technology for the electricity and water sector. I think that it’s a good opportunity for the Iranian companies to join the foreign companies like Danish ones to get right solutions for the people”, he commented.
