TEHRAN — The Trastuzumab with the trade name of Herceptin, a drug mainly used to treat certain breast cancers, will enter the domestic market by the next week, the Food and Drug Administration’s director, Rasoul Dinarvand, said.

After years of endless effort, Herceptin which is currently being produced in Switzerland is now being mass produced in the country, Dinarvand noted, the Tasnim news agency reported.

The domestically-produced drug will significantly cut the expenses, Dinarvand said, adding that it will be covered by the insurance companies and the out-of-pocket costs would be just 10 percent.

The drug production will help prevent the outflow of more than 40 million euro annually and also boost the drug export, he added.

The unveiling ceremony of the drug will be soon held in attendance of the health minister, he said.
