TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has said that the Nigerian government should take immediate action to establish peace and stop violence in the country and to protect the Muslims.

In a phone conversation with Nigerian Foreign Minister Geoffrey Onyeama, Zarif expressed concern over recent clashes in Zaria city in Northern Nigeria.

The Nigerian foreign minister expressed hope that peace would be restored to Nigeria and clashes and violence would be ended.

Last week, a violent clash occurred between the Nigerian Army and members of the Muslim sect, Shiite, in Zaria, Kaduna State.

The coordination council of the Islamic Developemt Organization also issued a statement of Monday and condemned the terrorist attack in Nigeria.

The statement said that killing of the Shias in Nigeria indicates the “fear” and “desperation” of the hegemony and the House of Saud.
