“Little Boy”, “Children of Oak” honored at Chinese contest

TEHRAN – The Iranian animated movies “The Little Boy” and “Children of Oak” have won awards at the 9th Asian Youth Animation and Comics Contest (AYACC), which was held in the Chinese city of Guiyang from November 20 and 22.

“The Little Boy” directed by Mona Abdollah-Shahi received the jury special prize while “Children of Oak” directed by Saadat Rahimzadeh won the award for best special effects.

The short film “The Little Boy” is about a little orphan boy and a bomb as citizens are evacuated from their homes following army warnings.

“Children of Oak” is a documentary about the life, traditions and the impact of children on Kurdish ethnic groups who mainly live in western Iran.

Iranian producer Mohammad Abolhassani was on the contest’s jury, which had members from China, Japan, India, South Korea, Russia and the U.S.

Six animated movies out of 40 submissions from Iranian filmmakers were selected to compete with over 30 movies by directors from Russia, India, Japan and several other countries.

The 9th AYACC was organized under the auspices of the China Youth Federation, the Guiyang Municipal People’s Government and the Cartoon Commission of China TV Artists Association.

The contest aims to promote cultural communication and cooperation of Asian youth and to strengthen the influence of Chinese culture throughout Asia and the world.
