TEHRAN -- The Ardebil branch of the Art Bureau is playing host to a poster exhibition on Nelson Mandela while libertarians in the world are getting ready to commemorate the liberation struggle icon on December 5, the second anniversary of his death.
The exhibition entitled “Nelson Mandela, the Liberty Dove” displays 76 posters by 63 graphic designers, Ardebil Art Bureau Director Amir Rajabi said during the opening ceremony of the weeklong exhibition on Wednesday evening.
The artists are from 22 countries, including Iran, Spain, Germany, Argentina, Italy, Britain, Peru and Turkey.
The showcase has been organized with the support of the Iranian Artists Forum, which earlier hosted the exhibition for one week during December 2014.
“All the posters promote world peace, morality, kindness, humanity and unity,” Rajabi said.
Swiss artists Sabina Oberholzer and Renato Tagli, and American poster designer Scott Laserow worked together to select the works for the exhibition.
Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years for defying the racist apartheid government that led South Africa for decades. He emerged from prison in 1990 and became South Africa’s first Black president four years later.
Mandela died on December 5, 2013 at the age of 95 after months of struggling with an illness.
