TEHRAN - Zayandeh Rood, the largest river in the central plateau of Iran, began flowing in the historical city of Isfahan on Friday morning after the dam’s floodgates opened up to provide water for the autumn cultivation in the eastern part of the city.
Earlier, one of the local officials Ali Basirpourian, in an interview with IRNA, had said that 70 cubic meters of water is released from the gate every second, out of which 32 cubic meters is reserved for the eastern part of the city.
The decision, made by the five-member agricultural committee of Isfahan, was implemented last year as well from November 6 to December 6, 2014.
Zayandeh Rood flows from west to east and is the most well known river of Iran after Karoon. In the early 2010s, the lower reaches of the river dried out completely after several years of seasonal droughts
