Fight against arrogance is based on historical experiences: Leader

TEHRAN - Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has said that the Iranians’ struggle against global arrogance is “logical, wise and based on historical experiences”.

The Iranian people’s fight against the arrogance is not “illogical and emotional”, the Leader noted during a meeting with students in Tehran on Tuesday.

The U.S. has adopted “subversive” policies against Iran during the past 37 years, the Leader said.

“The fact is that the U.S. objectives towards the Islamic Republic of Iran have not changed and they will not hesitate to annihilate Iran, but they cannot do that,” he noted.

The Leader also said it is the time to “draw the plan for the Iranians’ progress” while highlighting the importance of the youths’ “consciousness, awareness and general insight”.

Elsewhere, he said, “After the Revolution [1979 Islamic Revolution], the U.S. had embassy in Tehran and had relations with the Iranian government, but did not avoid hatching plot for even one day. This historical experience should make someone understand the fact that friendship and relationship will not put an end to the U.S. enmities and plots.”

He added the documents found after the seizure of the U.S. embassy in Tehran on November 4, 1979, shows that the embassy was “den of spies” and a center to hatch plots against “the Iranian nation and the fledgling Islamic Republic”.

The Leader also said during the process of the nationalization of Iran’s oil industry, the reliance of Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh on the U.S. to counter Britain was a “historic mistake”.

The Mosaddegh government was overthrown in a coup orchestrated by the American Central Intelligence Agency and the British Secret Intelligence Service in 1953.

Nationalization of the Iranian oil industry, which had been under British control since 1913 through the Anglo-Persian Oil Company was the most notable policy of Mosaddegh’s government.

Britain and the United States imposed sanctions against Iran’s oil and later colluded to stage a coup against the government in 1953.

The Leader also said that the U.S. has targeted the people’s beliefs and values, because it has become aware that the Iranian people’s religious beliefs are the reason behind their resistance.

He said the Iranian people’s “power and progress” brought the 5+1 group (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) to the negotiating table with Iran.

Ayatollah Khamenei also said “ignoring the main enemy” and being busy with “domestic conflicts” is a “big mistake”.
