TEHRAN – An exhibition of photos and documents on the long relationship between Iran and the United Nations opened Wednesday at the Central Library of the University of Tehran.

The exhibition has been organized to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations on October 22.

The representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Iran, Serge Nakouzi, the director of the General Office of Documents and Diplomatic History of the Foreign Ministry, Behzad Khakpur, and the University of Tehran deputy director for cultural affairs, Majid Sarsangi, were among the participating guests at the opening ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, Nakouzi expressed thanks to the organizers of the event and said that the long relationship between Iran and the UN indicates their close relationship, adding Iran was one of the 51 countries involved in the establishment of the United Nations.

A collection of 70 photos and documents showing the long collaboration between Iran and the UN are on show in the exhibit, Nakouzi added.

In his brief speech Khakpur also referred to the long history of Iran in establishing peace and friendship in the world and said that Iran has also had a prominent role in approving the UN charter.

However, Sarsangi criticized the UN policies and said, “Since the establishment of the United Nations, many nations around the world are still suffering and live in this world of inequality.”

Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have collaborated in organizing the exhibit, which will be running until October 21.
