Tehran Municipality launches educational center for traditional Iranian music

TEHRAN -- The Art and Cultural Organization of Tehran Municipality has opened an educational center for traditional Iranian music.

The opening ceremony of the center entitled “The School of Iranian Song” was held at the Sacred Defense Garden Museum on Wednesday evening.

Various masters will teach students the radifs of Iranian music in the traditional style common in schools operating over the past decades, the director of the Music Department of the organization, Babak Rabukheh, said in a press conference on Tuesday.

The total collection of more than 200 gushehs (traditional melodic motifs) in all 12 dastgahs is known as the radif.

Nasrollah Nasehpur, Hesameddin Seraj, Ali Jahandar, Hamidreza Nurbakhsh, Sediq Tarif and Mohammad Bajelan are among those masters who will hold courses at the center.
