Over 6m tons of goods transited via Iran in 6 months

TEHRAN- Over 6.052 million tons of goods were transited via Iran during the first half of the current Iranian calendar year, which began on March 21, the Mehr News Agency reported on Wednesday.


Oil products and non-oil goods accounted for 2.91 million tons and 3.142 million tons of the transited commodities, respectively, in the six-month period.

The non-oil goods mostly consisted of fuel, chemical products, cotton, household appliances and food products.

Transit of goods via Iran rose by 6.5 percent in the past Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 20, compared to the year before. 

Over 12.3 million tons of goods were transited via the country in the previous calendar year. 

Shahriyar Afandizadeh, the Iranian deputy transport and urban development minister, has said that Iran has the capacity to transit 40 million tons of goods annually.
