TEHRAN - A wildfire, broke out on Thursday morning in the heights of Malghan in Gachsaran Town , has burnt down about 40 hectares of forests and meadows, IRNA reported on Friday.
Gachsaran is a town in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province in the southwest of Iran.Despite firefighters’ attempt to bring the blaze under control, the fire is still burning strong due to windy weather and impassable condition of the area, Abdolrahim Rahimi said.
The fire began in the heights between Narak and Imamzadeh-Jafar villages.
Oak and Persian turpentine trees constitute the significant part of the greenery in Gachsaran, Rahimi said, adding that the cause of the fire is under study.
He ensured that the perpetrators face serious consequences for their action.
Farham Jalili, the head of Natural Resources and Watershed Department of Gachsaran, also said that five fires have damaged 104 hectares of the forests and meadows in Gachsaran since Aug 23, 2015.
The protected areas of Deel, Khami, along with the forests around Mareen district are all among the most important places in Gachsaran affected by the recent fires; the damages are estimated to be at 3.3 billion rials ($97.500), Jalili explained.
He blamed people’s negligence in paying attention to warning signs for not lighting fire in forests and meadows as the main cause of the fires.
Blaze is the most significant cause of the eradication of the forests, he added
