Adelaide festival to screen “316”

TEHRAN – “316” directed by Iranian filmmaker Peyman Haqqani will compete in the Adelaide Film Festival, which will be held in the Australian city from October 15 to 25.
“316” tells the story of an elderly lady who takes a trip down memory lane. She narrates the story of her life and her country mostly by means of shoes for which she gives reasons why a story can be told through them.Earlier in May, “316” and several other Iranian movies went on screen during an annual program by the UCLA Film and Television Archive.
Book City Institute to review Arthur Schnitzler oeuvre
TEHRAN -- Short stories and novellas by Austrian author Arthur Schnitzler (1862–1931) will be reviewed in a session at the Book City Institute in Tehran on Tuesday.
Critics and literati Ali-Asghar Haddad, Amir-Ali Nojumian, and Mohammad-Hassan will deliver speeches at the session, which will begin at 4:30 p.m.
“Hey! Would You Like to Be My Friend?” published in Spanish
TEHRAN – Iranian children’s writer Mojgan Kalhor’s “Hey! Would You Like to Be My Friend?” has been published in Spanish by Iran’s El Faro Children and Young Adults Group.
The book illustrated by Neda Azimi was originally published under the auspices of Iran’s Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults.
El Faro, affiliated with the Oriental Cultural Foundation (Fundación Cultural Oriente), has published over 50 books by Iranian authors in Spanish and Portuguese.
Iranian thespians to perform “Momma Yerma” in Yerevan
TEHRAN – Iranian theater troupe led by director Farzin Nobarani will perform “Momma Yerma” at the High Fest International Performing Arts Festival, which will be held in Yerevan, Armenia from October 1 to 10.
“Momma Yerma” has been written based on Spanish dramatist Federico García Lorca’s “Yerma” that deals with the themes of isolation, passion and frustration but also the underlying themes of nature, marriage, jealousy and friendship.
Iranian shorts line up for Japanese festival
TEHRAN – Promising Iranian filmmaker Omid Abdollahi’s shorts “Gandage”, “Hostess” and “Glimmer” will go on screen at the 10th Sapporo International Short Film Festival and Market, which will be held in the northern Japanese city from October 7 to 10.
A lineup of short movies by Rafael Bolliger from Switzerland, Rosto from the Netherlands and Peter Volkart from Switzerland will also compete in the international competition section of the event.
“Track 143” competing in Russian festival
TEHRAN -- Director Narges Abyar’s acclaimed drama “Track 143” is competing in the East and the West: Classics and Avant-Garde, a festival that is underway in Orenburg, Russia.
The film is about a great maternal sacrifice during the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war as Olfat is waiting for her missing-in-action son to return home.
Iranian filmmaker Abdorreza Kahani is among the jury members of the festival, which will run until September 18.
