Iranian nurse receives Florence Nightingale Medal

TEHRAN — An Iranian male nurse, Ramin Kohankhaki, along with 35 other nurses across the world was awarded Florence Nightingale Medal 2015 by the National Red Cross, IRNA reported on Saturday.

The recipients were nominated by their respective National Red Cross or Red Crescent Society and selected by a commission comprised of the ICRC, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the International Council of Nurses, ICRC wrote on its website.

Thirty-six outstanding nurses from 18 countries have been awarded the Florence Nightingale Medal, which recognizes exceptional courage and devotion to victims of armed conflict or natural disaster.

It also recognizes exemplary service or a pioneering spirit in the areas of public health or nursing education.

Graduated from Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Kohankhaki is the head of operations coordination in medical emergencies.

His participation in various medical emergency teams in Indonesia (2006), Nicaragua (2007), Tunisia (2012), Iraq (2012), Somalia (2012), Lebanon (2013), and Yemen (2015) brought him the well-deserved award.
