TEHRAN – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has said that a recent agreement reached between Iran and world powers proved the power of diplomacy in resolving international issues, expressing hope that it would serve as a model for the settlement of other regional and international disputes.
The conclusion of nuclear negotiations revived hopes that international problems can be resolved through diplomatic channels, Rouhani said in a meeting with EU Foreign Policy chief Federica Mogherini in Tehran on Tuesday. The agreement will have a positive impact on the future of relations between countries in the region, Europe and the world, Rouhani added.
Iran and six major powers recently adopted the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to put an end to more than a decade of differences over Tehran’s nuclear program.
Rouhani also called on all parties involved to make efforts to implement the nuclear accord.
He also said that the agreement bears the message of “peace” to the world.
Mogherini described the pact as a “step forward” to promoting global peace.
She said that the European Union is determined to open a new chapter in its ties with Iran.
The European Union has always considered Iran an “important and powerful partner” and seeks to revive relations with the Islamic Republic in various areas, she stated in a separate meeting with Iran’s parliament Speaker Ali Larijani.
She said that the European Union is very “sensitive” about establishing security and stability in the region, adding that Iran and the European countries have common interests on the regional issue.
Cooperation between Iran and the European Union on the regional issues will lead to “positive results”, she added.
The Iranian Majlis speaker called for more cooperation between Iran and the European countries.
Larijani noted that Iran and the European Union could expand cooperation on such areas as countering terrorism, establishing peace and stability in the region and fighting drug trafficking.
