TEHRAN - A group of terrorists trying to cross southern borders were spotted and arrested by the border guards on Friday, border guards commander said on Saturday.

The timely reaction of Iranian security forces thwarted a massive terrorist operation inside the country, General Qasem Rezaei said.

The terrorist group intended to cross into Iran via southeastern border with Pakistan through Mirjaveh Mountains on Friday, Asriran news website reported on Saturday.

A number of terrorists were killed and three of them arrested, he said.

The terrorists had been trained by foreign intelligence agencies and were carrying sophisticated weapons and explosive devices, he said.
