TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham says the country seeks a good nuclear deal with the 5+1 group of world powers and is not bound by the deadline for a final deal.

Addressing reporters on Wednesday, Afkham also predicted that Iran and its negotiating partners might even clinch an agreement on the final text of a nuclear deal before the self-imposed June 30 deadline.

Government spokesman Mohammadreza Nobakht also told IRNA on Wednesday that “if an ambiguity remains that would be resolved with the extension of the talks we will naturally agree with the extension.”

---------- Administration respects parliament’s decisions----

Asked about a bill recently passed by the Majlis, which requires the government to safeguard the country’s nuclear rights, Afkham said the current administration respects the decisions made by the legislature.

She added that the Iranian negotiating team will always abide by the measure once it is approved as a law by the Guardian Council.

Later on Wednesday, the Guardian Council, which is the body that oversees the bills passed in Majlis, approved the bill into a law.

----------- Yemen crisis----

Afkham once again reiterated Iran’s call for a political solution to the ongoing conflict in Yemen, expressing regret over Saudi Arabia’s refusal to halt its airstrikes on Yemen during the fasting month of Ramadan.

She noted that a ceasefire during the holy month could have paved the way for a political solution to the conflict in the Arab country.

Saudi Arabia started its airstrikes on Yemen on March 26 without a UN mandate. According to the UN, over 2,600 people have been killed and thousands more injured by Saudi Arabia’s airstrikes on Yemen.
